A Look Inside

Goliath's Hebrew title— 'ish-habenayim'—means "the man of the in-between." Discover the spiritual meaning of this figure in "no-man's-land" in an excerpt from the "Crumbs" devotional, connecting David's fight to the work of Christ.

The Hebrew word for "distress" (tsarah) means "narrowness," while the root for "salvation" (yasha) means "to make wide." This excerpt from "Crumbs" explores how God creates a spacious path out of our most impossible situations.

Crumbs is a daily devotional for every day of the year—with 366 pages of content (in order to include leap years) for the Christian believer seeking to savor the Bread of Life on a daily basis. Each daily portion not only includes passages from the Bible, it also adds references to additional verses for further study and meditation.

The Author
Dr. Jeremy Bajema
Born and raised in a homeschooling family in the Pacific Northwest, Dr. Jeremy Bajema first moved to Jerusalem for several months in 2004. Soon thereafter, he began his academic journey at the Hebrew University, where he completed a bachelor’s degree in Bible and Hebrew Language. He continued to a master’s degree and ultimately a doctorate in the field of comparative studies between biblical Hebrew and classical Arabic. His research focused on the philological comparisons made by Jewish grammarians living in Arabic-speaking lands during the Middle Ages—grammarians who recognized that the similarity between the two languages helped them preserve and reconstruct the meanings of Hebrew words that had fallen into disuse.
Beyond his formal education in the classical Semitic languages, Jeremy became fluent in both modern Hebrew and colloquial spoken Arabic. His familiarity with the local languages, as well as the cultures and traditions they represent, has greatly contributed to his understanding of the Bible—a lifelong endeavor enhanced by a love of the geography of the Land. For many years, Jeremy has worked as a lecturer of Hebrew and topics related to the Bible. Additionally, he has worked on curriculum development in both fields. To write the daily devotional Crumbs, Jeremy has drawn from his background in these fields as well as from his own personal relationship with God.
Jeremy currently lives in Jerusalem. When he is not teaching, researching, or writing, he enjoys spending quality time with friends and family, traveling, nature exploration, and cooking everything from honey-mustard chicken to salads with a side of tahini sauce.
